Revision Rhinoplasty
APPOINTMENT REQUEST FORM
Revision Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed on patients who have undergone one or more previous rhinoplasty operations but are dissatisfied with the results or have begun to experience functional problems.
Revision surgery requires far more experience, anatomical knowledge, and precision than the initial operation. Prof. Dr. Mesut Sabri Tezer, an internationally qualified Facial Plastic Surgeon, reconstructs damaged nasal structures in terms of both aesthetics and breathing function.
What Does Revision Rhinoplasty Mean?
Revision rhinoplasty (secondary rhinoplasty) is a “corrective” surgery performed to correct deformities that occurred after the first operation or to restore lost breathing function.
This operation is planned to correct a drooping nasal tip, irregularities in the nasal bridge (collapse or excessive curvature), or asymmetries in the nostrils. The revision process usually involves replenishing cartilage tissue lost in the first operation (using cartilage taken from the ear or ribs if needed).
How Many Months After Surgery is Revision Rhinoplasty Performed?
The most critical factor for a successful revision surgery is time.
- Waiting Period: It is recommended that at least 12 months (1 year) pass after the first surgery.
- Why Wait? This time is necessary for the nasal tissues to heal completely, for the swelling to subside, and for the scar tissue to soften.
- Exceptions: In very rare cases, if there are significant functional losses or marked asymmetries, this period may change upon evaluation by Prof. Dr. Mesut Sabri Tezer; however, the general rule is to wait until the tissues are ready for surgery again.
Is Revision Rhinoplasty Risky?
Like any surgical procedure, revision surgery carries risks, but these risks can be minimized with expertise and experience.
- Tissue Challenges: Tissues that have been previously operated on may have reduced blood supply and elasticity.
- Cartilage Needs: If the cartilage support inside the nose was depleted in the first surgery, cartilage transfer from another part of the body (usually the ribs or ear) may be necessary.
- Surgeon Selection: Revision surgeries require academic knowledge that can provide immediate solutions to anatomical variations and unexpected situations.
Prof. Dr. Mesut Sabri Tezer, both an ENT professor and a specialist in Facial Plastic Surgery, manages these risks in the most professional manner thanks to his mastery of nasal anatomy.
Why Should You Choose Prof. Dr. Mesut Sabri Tezer?
- International Reputation: One of the few surgeons to hold the IBCFPRS (International Board for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), one of the most prestigious certifications in the world.
- Dual Professorship Title: A fully equipped approach in both aesthetic (plastic) and functional (ENT/Maxillofacial Surgery) aspects.
- Personalized Solutions: Following the principle of “Profile Aesthetics,” the goal is not only to create a beautiful nose after revision, but also to ensure it is harmonious with the face and healthy.
Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery Process
The recovery process for revision surgery is similar to the initial surgery. The splint is usually removed after 1 week. However, it may take a little longer (1.5 – 2 years) for the tissues to fully settle and for the nose to take its final shape compared to the initial surgery.
Revision surgery means another chance. To manage this process with academic discipline and an aesthetic vision, and to schedule a personalized treatment plan with Prof. Dr. Mesut Sabri Tezer, you can fill out the appointment form. We wish you good health.
